The Latest Casual Game Mode Ignites Intense Discussions Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a new playlist called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but features a few key adjustments:

  • Every squad includes just 8 human participants, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities performed by human gamers award complete experience points, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
  • Only two locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.

In short, the playlist delivers on its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, since it provides additional choices for gamers looking for alternative ways to have fun with the game. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 fans are mad.

Player Responses: From Fury to Praise

"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and another lists all the issues they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," while another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Concerns and Player Feedback

Despite the support, there are valid points to criticize the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists currently available. On a similar note, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the community meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. Another labels this mode as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?

Should the development team has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and responding to player input. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
