New York Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will be OK after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during a recent discussion.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and child, they’re in good spirits and he will come through this without issue.”

The coach did not know when Boyd might be released the hospital, where he is reported as critical but stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” he added. “Yet I must mention, from our conversation, his attitude was encouraging. Furthermore, that reassures me, given his positive frame of mind and he expresses himself so positively.”

Authorities shared surveillance images earlier this week of an individual wanted in the attack on the player. What prompted the attack is still being looked into and officials stated it is unknown if Boyd was the intended victim. No other injuries according to reports.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Sunday near Madison Square Garden and Times Square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to Bellevue Hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, as reported. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn said Boyd has occupied his thinking “constantly” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his wife just had a baby.

“The first thing I thought about, he just had a kid,” Glenn noted. “My mind went to his family, I’m thinking about his kid and I hope he recovers fully. That was my main concern.
“A certain process is underway, I’ll keep private, but I’m happy at the fact that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd did not participate during the current season, after joining the team, after being placed on injured reserve on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that required surgery.

He signed with New York as a free agent in March and was expected to be an important component of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a practice session on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd continued to be present during the entire campaign while healing from his surgery.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn stated. “I mean, he attends every game. His commitment is total. Given his status as a special teams standout, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, a Texas native, began his career with the Vikings after getting drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings out of UT in the 2019 draft. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement for $1.6 million with New York in March.
