Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his maiden title for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has experienced a torrid period, winning just a single victory at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in especial - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with former trainer Cervara.

Presently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first championship following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court from spring of that year.

Success also signifies Medvedev has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one various tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my children together, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six finals, including in Halle earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching play style and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted commentators to question if his skill to compete at the highest level was concluded.

But the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to come to the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, taking four of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

Both players traded service breaks in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his initial professional championship, seized the initiative to force a third set.

He rescued four early-game opportunities in a competitive final set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev secured the win with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
