Cars in Germany's City Discovered Marked with Swastikas in Human Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Law Enforcement
Authorities stated they were notified by a resident who noticed a vehicle in Hanau marked with red-colored liquid

Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.

Law enforcement state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.

The fluid had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they reported.

Police then located many other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials state initial examinations show the fluid was likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; investigators are currently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.

Local authorities said they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the public for tips.

A high-ranking political figure stated the attack left him without words and needed to be solved promptly.

"This event hits the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the death of nine people by a shooter focusing on people of migrant background in five years prior.
